My Why
I’m going No Buy and Low Buy for these main reasons:
- I want new dentures and to anchor them in my mouth. I am not sure how much this will cost because my insurance will pay for the dentures, just don’t know how much anchoring will cost.
- I have four people I need to pay back for loaning me money over the decades.
- I want to put money in my savings account.
- I don’t want to be in debt anymore.
My giant dream is to build a Tiny House. That is the ultimate goal after getting new teeth. Wouldn’t that be great?
That’s it! Those are my Why’s.
Why Am I Telling You
The main reason I am writing this here is for accountability. The other reason is because, in April 2024, I will hit my two years with my Health Gain/Weight Loss excursion.
These are my Mental Health Gains… Physical Health and Weight Loss will be in its own post.
No Buy/Low Buy Year
This might seem odd for a Health Gain and Weight Loss list, but I promise, my mental health needs this bad. So does my financial health.
For the first time, I have bought a fancy planner. I’ve tried cheaper planners before, but they had no guidance and I didn’t know what to do with them. I wanted a great planner.
I ended up with three. Ugh.
I have an Erin Condren Functional Planner.
I have a Financial Planner.
And I have a Spiritual Planner.
I also write three Morning Pages every day in a spiral notebook (I only write in spiral notebooks) and I have blank notebooks in two places so I can write notes of DO NOT FORGET things.
If I’m not the most organized person at the end of the year, you all need to just shake your heads with pity because I have spent a small fortune, well, probably a large fortune, on notebooks and supplies for this planner adventure.
Number 1 on my No Buy List for 2024 is Planner Supplies,
including pens.
I have long been a pen collector. I’ve written with Uniball Signo 207, 0.7mm black and blue since I became a midwife in the early 80s… black on medical charts, blue for signing anything but charts. I just counted and have 35 of these pens within reach. That doesn’t count the ones next to the bed or in my purse. I’m weird, I know.
With the planners, I’ve expanded my pen choices (for now). We’ll see what I end up with come 2025.
Besides Planners… Other No Buy Items
- No Diet Coke. (This will be more difficult than not buying planner supplies. I need to drink water, not spend a zillion dollars on Diet Coke. Also, my kidneys would much prefer water to dehydration.)
- No Birkenstocks. (I’ve been looking at some of the new expensive ones, but do not need them.)
- No books. (I canceled my Audible and will read what I have in my Audible library and if I want more books, I will borrow them from the library.)
- No new subscriptions. (I canceled everything but YouTube Premium and Amazon Prime.)
- No beauty anything. (Makeup, creams, hair supplies, haircut, manicure, pedicure, nail polish, nail files, etc.)
- No candles or essential oils. (These have been a staple in my life. Not anymore.)
Low Buy Items
Only buy food when I have to so I can eat.
Only buy clothes if the ones I have are falling off. (This shouldn’t be for about 6+ months at least.) When buying clothes, they need to be from thrift stores. (Since I can find clothes my size now!)
Only thing allowed to buy on Amazon are necessities for life. (TP, baby wipes, garbage bags, and the like.)
Only pay for Uber to ride, not to eat.
There’s My Accountability
I will check in quarterly and let you know how I did. I am very excited and believe I can do this.
What’s Next?
Health Goals! And the why I am doing those. (I think we know why, but good to write it down again anyway.)
Happy New Year soon!
