While I had been on Trulicity since August 2022, my daughter Meghann told me she was going on Mounjaro in August 2023.
Now this is the crazy part. I didn’t know anything about GLP-1 medications even though I had been on one for a year. I asked her what it was and when she explained it was for weight loss, I Googled it and thus began my GLP-1, GLP-1/GIP, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, tirzepatide, semaglutide, dulaglutide, etc. information journey.
Me & Mounjaro
I emailed my endocrinologist and asked if I could go on Mounjaro and she called the next day and said she thought it would be good, but wasn’t sure if insurance would pay for it since my HbA1c was under 7.0. (It was 6.7.) I told her I had been off Trulicity for 3 weeks and I would stay off until my HbA1c was above a 7.0. She said she would see if it would go through, wrote the prescription and it was denied at the pharmacy. All the insurance company needed was a pre-authorization. Within a couple of hours, it was done and I picked up my Mounjaro right away.
I gave myself my first injection on September 7, 2023.
My HbA1c is 5.1 now. Wheeee!
Meghann & Her Mounjaro
My daughter had been on her Mounjaro for 2 weeks and was already losing weight by the time I started. She is down over 40 pounds now, three months after starting.
Tristan & His Mounjaro
And now, not only is my daughter on Mounjaro, but my son just took his first shot today. He didn’t know how to give himself an injection, so called me to talk him through it. Having a midwife for a mom can be helpful sometimes.
Beaming With Mama Pride
I am so proud of my kids for taking their health into their hands. They have watched my struggle for their 40 years of life and they do not want any more of their own. Who knows how much worse it could get if they didn’t get/take help now.
This is going to be a fun family ride!
I can’t help but wonder how many families are on these meds together. Anyone?
