I’ve been on Mounjaro for seven months now. My dosage has been 15mg for three months. Last month, as the shortage began, I was lowered to Mounjaro 12.5 because no 15mg could be found in Orlando. Apparently, the “warehouse” where pharmacist’s get the GLP-1s was nearly empty.
Now that the shortage is worse, there is NO Mounjaro to be found here. I wouldn’t want to go down any lower than 12.5 even if there was.
Ozempic Injection
I emailed my provider and we decided on Ozempic 2mg. I got it and took my first shot a few days ago. Well, I goofed up my first shot, so had to take the second one first.
I have injected hundreds of people and know how to use a syringe and needle. But the needle instructions that come with Ozempic do not mention there are two caps on the pen.
I left the second cap on with my first injection and watched the precious medication dribble down my stomach. I pulled the syringe off and took the second cap off, shaking my head knowing I had just wasted a week’s worth of semaglutide.
Ozempic Results
Before I picked up the prescription, I was hungry and had some niggling food noise in my head. I expected it to go away after the shot, but no such luck. Four days later, I was struggling to not eat everything around me. I wanted food I hadn’t thought of in over a year. I even thought about ordering Uber Eats and I haven’t done that for two years!
I cried.
How was I going to make it through the shortage with Ozempic? I obviously need the GIP and GLP in the Mounjaro/tirzepatide to shut my brain up from begging for food and my stomach to stop growling looking for more and more to eat.
Time for Compounding
I do not have lots of money, but I would rather spend what little I have on compounded tirzepatide than food. I called Henry’s Pharmacy and have an appointment in a couple of weeks. Apparently, they are swamped as all get out because of the shortage. I’m not surprised.
Until I get the medication my body and mind needs, I will be white knuckling it, walking as often as I can when I am hungry. I can’t eat if I’m not home.
I sure hope the shortage is over at the end of April as Eli Lilly states it will be. I can’t afford months of compounding. I also can’t afford regaining the weight and screwing up my HbA1c if I don’t use the compounded version.
Can you hear my frustration?
Tell me in the comments if you are having to make hard choices as well. It will help to not feel so alone. Hope you all are doing well!
Thanks for sharing. I have been on monjuro for a year now. I am on the .5 and it is the first time in years my blood sugar is under control. I have scrambled the last 3 months calling and driving an hour away to find meds. This month is the same thing but I haven’t found anyone that has it so far. It is very frustrating! Hope the manufacturer gets caught up soon and good luck to you.
Isn’t it the worse, Stacey?! It is more stressful than many other things in my life. Yes! Our HbA1c being so much better is great, isn’t it? Now are we supposed to lose that momentum and start again when Eli Lilly gets their patooty together? Know you are not alone!
Thanks for the comment!
